Features
A. Department
of Food Processing Industries & Horticulture has been started at Tamluk
in the year 2000. This Department deals with improved method of cultivation
of Flowers, Fruits, Vegetables, Spices, Plantation crops (Coconut, Arecanut,
Cashewnut, Betelvine), Medicinal Plants and Mushroom. This District contributes
a special position for production of Flower, Betelvine and Cashew nut.
Conventional flowers like Rose, Tuberose, Gladiolus, Chrysanthemum, Jasmine,
Marigold, Lotus and Various types of season flowers are cultivating here.
But at present more importance has been laid down for cultivation of Gerbera
and Anthurium. Here 2 Green House / Poly House are present for cultivation
of Gerbera.
B. Among the plantation
crops area of Betelvine and Cashewnut are gradually increasing in this
District. Uses of Bio-Pesticide and Organic manure are also increasing
to minimise Pest & Disease incidence.
C. High valued vegetables like Broccoli,
Capsicum, Chinese Cabbage are growing as demonstration plot and emphasis
is given to increase the area.
D. Among spices crops, Ginger, Turmeric &
Chilli are growing in large area in this District
E. In Food Processing sector, National Horticulture
Mission has taken various steps to establish infrastructures like 1) Pack
House 2) Multi Purpose Cold Storage 3) Refrigerated Van / Container 4)
Mobile Pre-Cooling / Processing Unit, 5) Collection / Grading / Stroing
Centre etc.
Planning for 1) Establishment of Rural Mandis, 2) Establishment of infrastructure
of Rural Markets 3) Establishment of Plant Health Clinic 4) Disease Forecasting
unit has been taken under National Horticulture Mission.
The scheme for area expansion of Cut Flowers under National Horticultue
Mission is also going on in this District.
F. To proper utilise of water, the horticultural
crops like Cashew nut and Vegetables will be covered by Micro Irrigation
i.e. Drip Irrigation & Sprinkler Irrigation and this scheme has been
taken in this district.
